Sea of Flowers 2015
November 21, 2015
I finally got to get out of Fengyuan. Since Halloween I have really been focusing on my health. I started a new eating regimen and exercise routine. (More on that later!) Between all my self-care things I started, I got sick. A week without exercise had me feeling super restless and agitated. As soon as I felt better I made plans with my roommate, Alex, to drive to Xinshe District to see the Sea of Flowers Festival.
We woke up at 6:00am on Saturday, drank our coffee, and drove the 45 minutes to Xinshe. It was a nice and easy drive, and parking only cost 50NT (1.70USD)! Despite the fact that we got there at 8:00am there were still a lot of people already there. Taiwanese people LOVE festivals!
Alex and I walked around for an hour before it started raining. Neither of us brought umbrellas because it hadn’t rained in Taiwan for months. (The one time we go outside to do things! haha) We took the opportunity to get food and sit under the food stand tarps.
It started to lightly drizzle and we headed back out into the flowers. Alex even ran into one of her students. After another hour of walking around we noticed there were so many more people. We walked through an expo building and as soon as we got out we both looked at each other and said we need to leave and go home. I was still taking medicine so I was drinking a lot of water and needed to go to the bathroom. That was a mistake! The wait was really long, with all the people there, and the smell was horrible. Escaping the people we drove home and took a nap.
I don’t know if I will ever go again because of all the people, but the flowers were beautiful and the food stands were good. I definitely needed to go this festival at least once while I lived in Taiwan. Ahhhhh smiles to beautiful flowers! 🙂
