I have been in Taiwan for almost 4 months now. Time has gone by so fast! One of the great parts about living in Taiwan is the value of the dollar here. When I brought money from America the exchange was definitely in my favor ($1USD – 30NT) Since then after paying bills I have had plenty of money left over to save and travel around Taiwan. To give people a little bit of an idea of how cheap (in my opinion) and reasonable Taiwan prices are I will describe my $15 USD day.
For 500NT ($15USD) I was able to purchase/do the following things:
1. A visit to the doctor
2. 3 days worth of medication (an assortment of 5 pills that I have to take 3 times a day)
3. A large latte
4. chips & rice/tuna snack
5. A full tank of gas for my scooter
6. Beef noodle dinner
I spent the same amount of money that I would have spent on an exuberant meal at Chipotle in the United States on six different things in Taiwan. Needless to say living here has been light on my pocketbook, and because I have an English teacher’s salary, rather enjoyable.
